Compound Names and Molecular Formulas

• Enclose complex compound names in quotation marks. "1,3,4-oxadiazoles" retrieves records containing the compound name 1,3,4-oxadiazoles.

Without quotation marks, the search term 1,3,4-oxadiazoles matches 1,2,4-oxadiazole as well as 1,3,4-oxadiazoles.

• Enter a molecular formula without subscripts or superscripts. C₄H₄O₂ should be entered as C4H4O2

• Preserve marks of punctuation such as hyphens and parentheses, but do not add spaces:

• KxFe2-ySe2 matches KxFe2-ySe2
• KxFe2ySe2 does not match KxFe2-ySe2
• K x Fe 2-y Se 2 is the same search term as K AND x AND Fe AND 2-y AND Se AND 2. It does not match KxFe2-ySe2
