InCites API update
We are making new fields available, renaming few fields to be consistent with the InCites application and also ensuring backward compatibility – so your existing InCites API integrations will continue to work without any changes. We are excited to present the following enhancements to the DocumentLevelMetricsByInstitutionId and DocumentLevelMetricsByUT endpoints in the InCites API.
All the enhancements below are available using the “ver=2” parameter. If the "ver" parameter is absent, we will continue to return the old stack, ensuring backward compatibility with your existing integrations.
- Open Access types per UT
- Retrieve Category specific metrics: By default, Web of Science category data is returned. However, users can retrieve category data for other schema by using a schema parameter with the appropriate schema code. The schema code is available on the Developer Portal.
- Return actual document type string instead of document type code
- Updated field names

A new InCites experience:
Each of the features in this and future releases were informed by our InCites users - through surveys, interviews and prototype-testing over the past year. And in discovering our user workflows, we are keen to ensure that these existing workflows are not interrupted. Our release schedule is designed to introduce gradual usability improvements with a corresponding release notes, to outline what has changed and why.
We are also excited to introduce Open Access Impactstory Data in InCites. We have added the following 12 new indicators capturing and aggregating the article level OA version in InCites. These indicators are available in all contexts under "Manage Indicators - Open Access tab". To learn more about Impactstory OA data, please follow this link.
This set of features, among a series of planned updates, will make InCites Benchmarking & Analytics more intuitive, inviting and valuable to you. Please review the release notes posted here (application/pdf, 629.4 kB, info).
If you are an EZProxy user, please make the necessary configuration changes outlined by OCLC here to ensure a seamless user experience.

A new InCites update was released today which introduces two new features:
1. New WoS categories (introduced in WoS in January 2019) - Quantum Science & Technology, Development Studies, and Regional & Urban Planning, will be available in InCites Benchmarking and Analytics with this data refresh. Users can use the existing Research Area filters to analyze these new categories in all contexts.
The Planning and Development category will no longer be available in InCites. Existing saved tiles with this category will not display any data. We encourage users to use either Development Studies or Regional & Urban Planning categories instead. These categories are also mapped to non WoS and non ESI categories in other schemas. The updated category mapping file is available here.
2. The category expected citation and percentile in subject area values will now correspond to the category selected by the user in Research Area entity only. For all other entities, we will continue to display the harmonic mean of category expected citation and the best percentile in subject area values for each document.

With this release, the European NUTS classification data is now available in InCites B&A. The Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics (aka NUTS) is a geocode standard for referencing the subdivisions of countries for statistical purposes. The standard is developed and regulated by the European Union, and thus only covers the member states of the EU in detail. The Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics is instrumental in the European Union's Structural Fund delivery mechanisms. For each EU member country, a hierarchy of three NUTS levels is established by Eurostat:
- NUTS 1: major socio-economic regions
- NUTS 2: basic regions
- NUTS 3: small regions
All of the level 1, 2 and 3 data is available under each "Location" filter in Regions, Research Area, Journal and Funding Agencies as well as in the "Collaboration with Location" filter for People and Organization entities.
Country/Region option is now selected by default within the "Location Type" filter of Region explorer.

New features implemented in this release:
1. ESCI index from WoS core collection is now available in B&A: The option to toggle between ESCI and non ESCI datasets is available through Explorer. Once in Explorer, users are able to select or deselect ESCI and the underlying data and performance baselines are updated immediately to show the research impact. By default, this is unchecked.
2. New Indicator - 1 Year Citing all Prior Years Cumulative: This new indicator is available in the "Organization" entity and counts citing document grouped by the publication year of the citing document. Thus, this is another variation of the "Times Cites Per year" but instead of looking at the publication year of the source document, we are capturing the publication year of the citing document. This can be found under "Manage indicators" -> Impact group. This new indicator is also available in the "Research Performance" system report. It provides institution the performance (in particular year) of all their publications written so far. For example: How many times my entire publications were cited by documents published in a specific year?
On the other hand, the times cited per year indicator provides Institution the performance of their publications written in a particular year. For example: How many times my publications from 2012 were cited when compared to my publications from 2011?

-
Prior to the 2016 4th bimonthly update of InCites (November 2016) a document’s publisher was determined at the time the document was indexed. Whatever the publisher was at the time of indexing (1980-2016), InCites displayed this as the publisher of the document. For example if a journal changed publishers in 2010, its pre-2010 documents would be associated with the previous publisher and its 2010-and-later documents would be associated with the current publisher.
With the latest InCites update, this protocol has undergone a change. Now InCites will display every document’s publisher as whichever publisher is currently associated with the document’s publication. Extending the above example, after a 2010 publisher change all of a journal’s documents (even those published prior to 2010) will be associated with the current publisher.
