The authenticate operation submits authentication credentials. If your authentication credentials are validated, a session identifier is returned in the service response.

All operations, except createDataset, must incorporate an active session ID in the request header. 

Request Message

The request message submits your user name and password. These are the same credentials you use when you log on to InCites. If you want to use different credentials to establish a Web services session, contact Thomson Reuters Technical Support.

Alternatively, the authenticate operation will use the IP address of your computer to authenticate your request for a session. If you want to use IP authentication, do not include username and password headers.

Response Message

The response returns a valid session ID which is the content of the <return> element.
